Reeking Pain

He ignored the beaconing voice
so many times in the past,
the bellowing raucous noise
inside his defiant heart

He denounced the imprints
cast on his mind,
as if she was an inscribed
engraved on sand never to last

But the gyration of the wilderness
captivated in some puerile trice,
the laughter, the guffaws flared up,
and every time he tried to touch
it disappeared as if it was a disguise

He became a peripatetic,
to avoid the reeking pain
he wandered to faraway places,
but it was all in vain
for she followed him through all the paths

He pretended forgetfulness,
put his heart on new interests,
but it never helped,
and he longed to have some momentary respite

Disdain he surrendered to his fate,
came to terms with the emotional spate,
he lived a platonic life
dangling on a thin rope
and she stayed in concealment
between shadows, enchanted hopes and blurred trite

  1. Brilliant execution.I can feel the restlessness and the yeraning of our heart which makes us do things to keep us busy. But we fail miserably if don’t have control on our emotions.
I don’t know I’m right or not but certain verses of this poem reflects you closely.

  2. This is a brilliant piece, Shantanu. Never seeing this piece, yet it speaks. So many shades, very expressive imageries.
It seems he is trapped between the heart with such restlessness, in an an attempt to forget. Plagued by fear of truly releasing the heart to experience a love untapped.
No longer at ease with the usual routine.
Even in an attempt of selective memory and thoughts of forgetfulness.
The reeking pain that comes is like a cutting of the heart from your own.
    Emotions have succumb.
