Promontory Rock

She stood strong
like the promontory rock
jutting out from the rough sea
standing for time immoral
battering the gale, the storm
and the high tides
during the full moon nights

And during the sun-kissed days
it battled with no respite
while the waves slapped its face
it stood tall exuding divine grace
and with defiant hope
it waited for the day
when a wandering seagull
would rest its wings
on its knoll
after a long haul flight
and when with perched eyes
it would gaze the horizon
mapping the pathway
to resume the flight
before the fall of the night

Until then the cape would provide
the seagull comfort and love
before it would soar away
consumed by its wanderlust
with the hope that it would
one day come back to the promontory rock

  1. I absolutely loved the metaphor you have used with the Seagull and the Promontory rock. Our love whether transient or permanent is always a respite for the dreary souls.
Such should be the power of love. Thanks for writing such a beautiful piece, Shantanu.
