To Papa With Love

This is for my dear papa. He left us too soon and we dearly miss him. He was a rockstar, did so much for the family without any complaints. Today whatever I am is because of him.

I miss his smile, his carefree guffaws, and everything that he used to do. Writing this ode to him, I had tears in my eyes. May his soul Rest In Peace

Happy Father’s Day to all you beautiful dads

The clouds were rough that day,
bellowing storm cracking thunderstorms
the world was smeared with dark shades of gray,
not a soul was at sight,
sensing the gale
everyone vanished to take shelter
ready to embrace the gale

I remembered how we were caught unguarded,
me my little brother and my dad
on a Bajaj 150
scooting beyond the speed
the two-wheeler could manage
and the downpour came,
the deluge was thick and relentless
and then I saw dad
hurriedly putting the bike on the stand
he draped the lone raincoat on us
and then covered his body over us
to protect us from the beating
on that lonely October night

Then I recalled the day
I had to leave home,
going far away to shape up my future
around the same time,
you left home too
serving for the forces
call of duty
mom and my brothers couldn’t leave
and you had now the burden to feed three homes

I came to know after a long time
how you had taken up cooking on your own
to save money
to make the ends meet,
but never complained once
or told us once
and always carried your impetus smile

You left us too soon
not that I could repay your debt ever
but you never gave us a chance
to take care of you,
to show you how your sacrifices had finally taken shape,
display our love
hold you tight,
maybe the last embrace

I know you are resting in peace
in heaven’s abode
blessing us
and sending us loads of love
every moment every day

  1. ❤❤❤🙂🙂🙂 Nostalgic…had tears in my eyes while reading …you are a good son, great person …..uncle is watching you …he must be so proud of u

Ur poem reminds me one of Dr. Kumar vishwas poem

    🙂🙂🙂❤❤❤

  2. I cannot describe what I feel right now… U know..sometimes , some posts are not just mere posts but a whole lot of emotions tied together in words . Do u think that I am reading this post now? I m reading it for the 8th time and finally I am commenting. I don’t know if u would call me an emotional fool after this but Shantanu I have cried after reading this post. Those sacrifices , adjusting in little are some of the things we kids do notice , but we can’t do anything about it.
This post was somewhere deep down connecting me to those small memories that may be I left behind in my past !!

—–not that I could repay your debt ever
but you never gave us a chance
    to take care of you,
to show you how your sacrifices had finally taken shape—
These lines truly gave me shivers ! My father is fine..but I feel that death feeling inside when even a thought of him , not with me comes on my mind and I can say that this poem of urs has touched me !

Good to know that ur father was in Armed forces as even my father is from the Indian Air force. It’s so happy to see that , a full grown up person could still write poetries for his dad on father’s day but then yeah age is always a number for ur parents cause no matter what , u will always be “kid” to them !!!! And yah , think me cheesy but but that title — “to papa with love ” that was really cute ! 😉

    Beautifully penned lines ! 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

  4. Such a touching tribute to a love that will always live in the heart… I’m sure he looks at you with pride and happiness. To live up to our parent’s dreams are all that they ever want, isn’t it! When we repay all our love to our children, the circle is completed. 😊😊
